Women mentoring Women

“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" - Luke 10:40 (NIV)

Thought for the day: If you are too busy for God, you are too busy

Reflection for the day: The key to living a balanced life is focusing on what is necessary

Mary and Martha both loved Jesus, and on this occasion they were both serving Him. But Martha thought Mary’s style of serving was inferior to hers. She didn’t realize that in her desire to serve she was actually neglecting what was most important (her guest). Are you too busy doing things for Jesus that you’re not really spending any time with Him? We must be careful not to let our service become self-serving. It is necessary that we spend time with God regularly in order for our priorities to be in line with His.

Jesus did not blame Martha for being concerned about what she was concerned about (the household chores). He was only asking her to examine her priorities, so that her service for Christ would not degenerate into mere busywork that is no longer full of devotion to God. Jesus was asking her to not allow her busyness to distract her from spending time with Him.

What about us?
- Are we rushing from task to task, allowing the busyness of life, work, other activities, and even work for Jesus to distract us from enjoying regular, sweet fellowship with Him?
-We must ask God to help us diminish our distractions by making Jesus our focus.

Prayer:
Lord, help us not to miss out on moments of intimacy with You. Help us not to be so busy doing we believe to be important, that we fail to devote time each day to prayer, reading Your Word, and growing deeper in You. In Jesus Name, Amen.

At the Home of Martha and Mary
38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
